PEORIA, Ill. – A massive sweep by Illinois State Police and local law enforcement in the Peoria area has landed 16 people behind bars, with nearly 20 others brought into compliance with state registration laws.
This wasn’t just a routine check. Officers hit more than 25 locations on Thursday, tracking down offenders who were failing to keep up with required sex offender or violent offender registrations.
When these offenders go off the grid, it creates a blind spot in our local safety net. By knocking on these doors, police are making sure that if someone is required to register, they’re actually doing it.
Beyond the registration checks, the sweep turned up other offenses, too. Officers made arrests for outstanding warrants, including probation violations, drug possession, and even one case of a felon illegally possessing a weapon. They also recovered a stolen vehicle.
