PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) –Dream Center Peoria is preparing for another summer camp season with more than 100 children attending each day, and the organization is hosting a speaker whose story leaders say connects with the families they serve.
This summer marks roughly the 16th year of the Dream Center’s camp program, which is already at capacity. The organization is also hosting Amy Duggar King, cousin of the Duggar family featured on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting.” King has spoken publicly about abuse, trauma and her experiences connected to the family.
Dream Center Executive Director Andy King said the message aligns with the work they do to support women and children throughout their programs.
“We really live and breathe 24/7 ministry. It doesn’t turn off at 5 o’clock. With summer camp we are seeing kids, we are helping them really survive that summer. The Amy event called Awaken is really to highlight what we do day in and day out,” said Andy King, executive director.
The summer camp will last seven weeks with activities, field trips, tutoring and mentoring programs. The Amy Duggar King speaking engagement is scheduled for June 16
