PEORIA, Ill. – Hailed as one of the fastest 4-mile races and Illinois’ toughest 15K, the 52nd Steamboat Classic returns to the Peoria Riverfront this weekend.
Race Director Adam White says you can still sign up to run, volunteer, or come out to watch.
“We’re hosting the USAFT 4-Mile Championships for both men and women again this year. Last year we saw an American best. Taylor Roe broke the American record by eight seconds. The male winner, Casey Clinger broke the 4-minute mile. He ran a 3:59 in the last mile,” White says.
White tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan Show” the Steamboat is also hosting the Masters Championships for men and women…men and women over 40. There’s over $80,000 in prizes. So, we are really trying to attract the best of the best,” White says.
But, White says the Steamboat Classic is for everyone…walkers, joggers, wheelers, and runners of all ages and abilities.
The Steamboat’s first race will get underway at NE Washington and Hamilton, with the Wheelchair 4-Mile Saturday at 7:55 a.m.
