PEORIA, Ill. (25News Now) – More than 250 veterans gathered at the Goodwill Commons in Peoria to receive support, gather supplies and have a meal.
The event is Goodwill’s 18th annual Stand Down, which provides veterans with a duffel bag full of materials to help them get through the colder months.
Many veterans in the area struggle with homelessness or are at high risk, and Goodwill believes the Stand Down event can help veterans receive the support they deserve.
“What better group of individuals to serve than those who have served us, right? So, we want to provide those services to those individuals and there is a large need in central Illinois to assist the veterans with that. So, we’d like to be part of the solution for that,” said Brady Waltz, Goodwill’s director of workforce innovation at Goodwill Commons.
Goodwill Commons will also provide Thanksgiving meals and Christmas dinners for veterans in need of support.

Goodwill Commons is located at 2319 E. War Memorial Drive.
