PEORIA, Ill. – A man is facing multiple charges after Peoria Police say he backed into a squad car, injured two officers and fled Wednesday night.
Police say officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jeffrey R. Kingsley in the 500 block of South Western Avenue around 10:45 p.m.
Kingsley allegedly continued for several blocks before stopping in the roadway. Police say he then put the vehicle in reverse, accelerated and struck a squad car behind him.
Two Peoria Police officers were injured in the crash. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police say Kingsley drove away after the crash, and officers did not pursue him.
Chillicothe Police later found Kingsley at a home on North Cutright Street and took him into custody. The vehicle was also found unoccupied near Benedict Street.
Kingsley was taken to the Peoria County Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, three counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct and reckless driving.
He also faces several other charges and traffic violations related to the incident.
