PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria dropped over the past week, but drivers are still paying significantly more than they were a year ago.
The average price of gasoline in Peoria fell 7.3 cents per gallon over the past week to $4.77, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 stations.
Despite the weekly decline, prices are 52.6 cents higher than a month ago and $1.46 higher than this time last year.
GasBuddy reported Peoria prices ranging from $4.54 to $4.99 per gallon Sunday. Across Illinois, prices ranged from $3.96 to $5.99.
The statewide average fell 13 cents over the past week to $4.75 per gallon..
Nationally, the average fell 1.6 cents over the past week to $4.42 per gallon. That’s nearly 36 cents higher than a month ago and $1.34 above last year’s average.
GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said prices fell in slightly more than half of states last week, with some of the largest declines occurring in the Great Lakes region following the restart of a major refinery.
De Haan said additional modest declines could be ahead, but geopolitical developments could quickly change the direction of prices.
