PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Peoria Public Schools’ Board of Education will be asked on Monday to hire an outside firm to perform audits for the last two school years.
Administrators said in a memo released Friday that the district’s accounts have not been audited for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years, prompting a request to hire the consulting firm NOW CFO.
PPS does not have its own chief financial officer. Michael Curry resigned earlier this month, having taken the position just weeks earlier. Curry’s final day on the job was Friday.
Two accountants will be paid $115 per hour, each working 40 hours per week “for as long as it takes to get the bank accounts and the general ledger accounts to match,” the staff’s memo said.
Also, the memo said a NOW CFO controller will be paid $211 per hour, working up to 10 hours a week, “ensuring all parties are communicating and providing weekly updates to the superintendent.”
In addition, PPS will be charged a $2,500 retainer, which will be paid back to the district or applied to the final invoice.
The next board meeting is Monday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
