PEORIA, Ill. – The start of the month also brings the start of a major road construction project in central Illinois.
Starting on Wednesday, the westbound span of the McClugage Bridge will close. It will be closed for the next two years as part of a rehabilitation project that will include redecking, painting, and various repairs.
IDOT says the closure will cause a traffic shift for those trying to cross the Illinois River via U.S. Routes 150 and 24.
Westbound traffic will use crossovers and shift onto the newer eastbound bridge. Two lanes eastbound and westbound each will be set up on the newer bridge, and all ramps will be accessible.
Traffic approaching the bridge will be reduced to one lane to allow the ramps to merge.
IDOT is warning motorists that delays can be expected, with people needing to take extra time to get to their destination.
