CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 News) – Those sensitive to heat will need to use extra caution the next few days as heat index values as high as 100-105 are possible. Multiple rounds of severe weather chances will accompany the heat, resulting in First Alert Weather Days to be issued for today through Thursday.
The Heat And Humidity Continue
Seasonably warm weather will continue through Thursday with highs near 90 and heat index values ranging from 95-105. This will put us near the dangerous levels of heat, which is one of the reasons we have designated the next few days as First Alert Weather Days. If you are sensitive to the heat, you will want to limit time outdoors if possible. Make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed if you do need to be outdoors, as the next few days are expected to be some of the, if not the hottest conditions of the year so far for most.
We will remain warm Friday and Saturday with highs in the mid 80’s, but the humidity will drop following a cold front which will bring our best potential for severe weather Thursday.
Remaining hot and humid the next few days with heat index values as high as 95-105.
Multiple Rounds Of Storms Continue
Storm chances will remain our main focus in the forecast with multiple rounds of severe weather chances over the next few days. For today, we will feature plenty of dry time with just a few isolated to widely scattered storms possible the second half of the day. An isolated severe storm capable of damaging winds is possible. Expect highs near 90 with heat index values as high as 95-100 under partly to mostly cloudy skies after some patchy fog out the door.
A better chance for storms will arrive Wednesday and Thursday with scattered to numerous severe storms possible. A majority of Central Illinois remains under a level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk Wednesday and an area wide level 3 out of 5 Enhanced Risk Thursday. All severe weather hazards will be possible including damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes. Storm chances for Wednesday will look to run from the late afternoon into the evening and during the late evening for Thursday.
Storm chances will increase Wednesday with scattered severe storms possible.
An area wide level 3 out of 5 Enhanced Risk for numerous severe storms being possible is in place for Thursday.
