SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Should Peoria area residents be concerned following reports of a potential hantavirus in Illinois?
State health officials say no, explaining the patient being treated has not been out of the country and was not a part of the cruise ship outbreak, which has left 3 people dead and several others sick, but rather is believed to have a strain of the virus that doesn’t spread between people.
Hantavirus is rare in our state—there’s only been 7 confirmed cases since 1993.
