PEORIA, Ill. – Drivers in Peoria are seeing higher prices at the pump, as the average price of gas has risen nearly 10 cents a gallon in the last week.
GasBuddy says the average price of gas in Peoria is $2.94 a gallon. That’s nearly 13 cents higher than a month ago and 28 cents lower this time last year.
Meanwhile, the national average price of gas has also edged up, rising 1.2 cents in the last week to $2.84, according to GasBuddy.
The cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $2.69 a gallon. Across Illinois, the lowest price reported was $2.39, while the highest price was $3.99.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said seasonal trends are beginning to take hold, particularly on the West Coast, which is expected to gradually push prices eastward. He noted that strengthening seasonal factors “are likely to intensify, potentially driving the national average back above the $3-per-gallon mark, where prices could remain for at least part of the spring.”
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois says the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area is $2.95, the state average is $3.01, and the national average price of gas is $2.90.
