BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Illinois American Water is seeking rate increases to fund upcoming infrastructure improvements.
The utility on Tuesday filed its request with the Illinois Commerce Commission. The increases are expected to fund around $577 million in water and wastewater system investments over the next two years.
The proposal would see an average increase of $14/month on the bill of a typical residential water customer. It also estimates an average increase of $28/month for those on a sanitary wastewater system.
In addition, there would be a modified allowance rate for low consumption residential water users, with a discount on the first 2,000 gallons of water used.
The $577 million will fund work to modernize and strengthen its water and wastewater systems across the state. The work includes replacing 42 miles of aging pipelines, upgrading storage tanks, wells, pumping stations, hydrants, meters, and wastewater plants.
The review request by the ICC is expected to take around 11 months to complete.
