PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – An eight-month-old girl likely died after the start of a trailer fire in rural Chillicothe.
That’s the ruling from Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood on Friday.
Harwood says an autopsy on A’maya Johnson shows she suffered severe smoke inhalation, as well as extensive burns on her body, believed to have occurred after her passing.
The fire occurred at a trailer Wednesday afternoon at the Pinewood Estates on Rome West Road.
Chillicothe Fire says there were unsafe conditions during search efforts because of burned out floor joists and a partial roof collapse.
The fire remains under investigation.
