WASHINGTON, Ill. – Washington residents will get to make their voices heard about a different form of transportation in the city.
The city council last week approved a non-binding referendum for the March 17th primary, asking whether Washington should permit the operation of golf carts on city streets in some capacity.
Ward One Alderwoman Paula Johnson says the referendum is about seeking guidance on the topic.
“I haven’t heard from a ton of people on this issue, but the ones I have heard from are either exceedingly pro-golf carts or exceedingly against golf carts, so I don’t feel like I have a good temperature of the residents,” Johnson said.
Ward Three Alderman Brandon Moss was the only “no” vote, saying there are more pressing issues in Washington.
