PEORIA, Ill. – Early voting in Peoria County may turn out better than expected.
With less than two weeks left before the primary election, Peoria County Election Commission Executive Director Tom Bride tells 25 News a lot of people have already participated.
“I think we’re going to end up about one hundred percent up from where we were four years ago,” said Bride.
Bride says some of that may be how competitive some of the primary races actually are — including the newly-redrawn congressional districts. He says many of those races will be decided during the primary.
Even though former Vice President Mike Pence will be in Peoria on Monday, Bride says he doesn’t necessarily think campaign stops like that will make much of an impact, as much as they may be setting up for the 2024 elections.
“I’m not positive if the campaign stops have as much to do with what’s going on with Illinois, or if some of this isn’t positioning for two years from now,” said Bride.
Former President Donald Trump is reportedly scheduled to campaign in the Quincy area next Saturday, June 25.
