PEORIA, Ill. — Summer months are a busy time at local animal shelters.
Case in point, Peoria County Animal Protection Services right now is caring for over 120 cats alone…well above what they’re set up for.
“As the weather gets warm, and we start to see the kittens come in, so do those adult cats. They’re straying, they’re having kittens and they all come in to the shelter,” PCAPS Director Becky Spencer said.
So, for a limited time, PCAPS is offering fee-waived cat adoptions to find homes for the felines as soon as possible.
If you’re a bit nervous about adopting, you can start by fostering a cat.
“Folks can foster a cat just to help us out, and give the cat a warm, comfortable place to land, instead of here at the shelter. Or, we also have a Foster-to-Adopt program,” Spencer said.
Adoptions are being currently being approved the same day you come in, and a completed application must be submitted prior to adoption.
PCAPS is open Monday-Saturday from 12-5 p.m. The shelter is located at 2600 NE Perry Avenue in Peoria.
Animals are adopted or fostered on a first-come first-served basis.
