PEORIA, Ill. — Arson has been determined to be the cause of a late Saturday night fire that occurred just before 9:30 p.m. at 2208 W. Proctor St.
When crews arrived, they found heavy flames and thick smoke coming from the rear of the house.
It was determined the home was vacant, which helped figure out the cause of arson, according to Battalion Chief Nathaniel Rice.
“We believe it didn’t have power or gas going to the house,” said Rice. “Through the process of elimination is where we find the determination of what was the cause of the fire.”
After the main fire was knocked down, crews spent a considerable amount of time opening walls and ceiling space to find any hidden fire and wet down any smoldering spots.
No injuries were reported to firefighters and a board up crew was called to secure the property, according to Rice.
