PEORIA, Ill. — The Catholic Diocese of Peoria told its schools on Monday that they will not be allowed to participate in IHSA basketball this winter.
The IHSA is defying Gov. J-B Pritker’s orders to delay the basketball season, despite it being classified as a high risk sport.
The IHSA is leaving it up to individual school districts to decide whether they will play.
Peoria Notre Dame, as well as Bloomington Central Catholic, will not play the IHSA schedule. The teams may still be able to play in the spring.
Gov. Pritzker says schools that go ahead and play IHSA basketball could face liability issues.
IHSA basketball is set to begin on Nov. 16.
