PEKIN, Ill. — A stolen RV was the cause of a Tuesday afternoon police chase that ended with the RV crashing into a generator in Pekin.
The RV was stolen just before 5:00 p.m. by 22-year-old John Joseph Lewis in Groveland. Police saw the stolen vehicle travelling northbound on Route 29 passing by Twin Lakes.
Evading police, the Lewis ran into a vehicle at the intersection of 5th St. and Ann Aliza St. before driving through the Hardee’s parking lot.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Lewis continued into the parking lot on Margaret St. and hit a generator in the parking lot next to Century Link.
After striking the generator, Lewis continued to run from police on foot. Lewis was apprehended at Capitol St. and Margaret St.
Lewis was charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Reckless Driving, No Valid Driver’s License and several traffic offenses, according to the Pekin Police Department.
