SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health said Wednesday 2,862 people received positive COVID-19 test results between Tuesday and Wednesday.
49 deaths were reported during that time.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate inched upwards, to 4.6%.
Labs statewide collected 52,669 specimens to be tested for the virus.
IDPH said molecular and antigen tests would be included starting Thursday in its daily specimen numbers. These had not been included previously because of limited knowledge of their accuracy, the department said.
1,974 people as of Tuesday night were in hospitals throughout the state with the virus or with possible cases of it. 390 patients were in intensive care, and 153 required the use of ventilators.
