PEORIA, Ill. — There are more than 30 new brick engravings at the Peoria County War Memorials recognizing veterans and other honorees.
A reception was held Wednesday afternoon on the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza in front of the World War I and World War II memorial to allow those who purchased bricks a chance to honor and publicly acknowledge their veterans.
US Congresswoman Cheri Bustos was in attendance, and she recalled going to the city park in Milford, Ill. every Memorial Day with her grandfather, who was a World War I veteran.
“You look around at these bricks, and the names that are engraved on this memorial here,” said Bustos. That is what we are here to recognize.”
“I want to thank all of those who have served and the families of those who have served.”
A total of 34 bricks were recently engraved in the areas around the World War I and II memorial and A Final Salute memorial.
