PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says it’s filing charges against the now-17-year-old driver who allegedly crashed a car in late-February, killing another teen.
State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos says Clayton Bell, who has turned 17 since the crash, now faces felony charges of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Homicide.
Passengers claimed to police they were trying to get the car to, in their words, “catch air” and were recording when the crash occurred February 27, 2022 on Pfeiffer Road in Bartonville.
At the time, officials say, the car was going at least 80 miles per hour in what turned out to be a 35 mile per hour zone.
Mia Dusek, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected.
Bell allegedly had been drinking, and had a blood alcohol level at the time of .14.
Bell is out of custody on a $10,000 recognizance bond. Information on when he will be back in court is unavailable.
