PEORIA, Ill. — For the first time in over a week, the Peoria City/County Health Department has reported no new COVID-19-related deaths.
The department Thursday said 61 residents of Peoria, Woodford, and Tazewell Counties tested positive for the virus during the Wednesday-Thursday reporting period.
There were no additional deaths reported, the first time since Sept. 8 a local COVID report contained no fatalities.
Peoria County accounted for 40 of the new cases, while Tazewell had 13, and Woodford increased its total by eight.
Local hospitalizations from the virus slightly increased, from 55 to 58. 20 of the 58 were intensive care-level.
The area’s recovery rate continued its slow ascent, standing Thursday just north of 78%, an improvement from just below 77% on Wednesday.
