MACOMB, Ill. — A freshman at Western Illinois University has been arrested after a Tuesday night shooting on the Macomb campus.
Kavion Poplous, 18, turned himself in at a Chicago Police Department Wednesday afternoon and was taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Poplous was subsequently charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Although Poplous was taken into custody, the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses remain closed for the remainder of the day Wednesday, Sept. 16.
WIU will resume its regular activities Thursday, Sept. 17. All residence halls will remain locked through the weekend to ensure residents’ privacy, according to Western Illinois University Police.
