PEORIA, Ill. – An $8 million renovation of Peoria Stadium.
That was the big announcement at the State of Peoria Public Schools breakfast heard Wednesday — made possible in part from state money secured by State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth — that could be complete in the next two years.
Schools officials addressed the teacher shortage, transparency, and other school district operations, and Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says a bigger focus is being made on helping students as a whole, not just their learning.
“Now, it’s more than just teaching reading, mathematics, and writing,” said Kherat, to 25 News. “It’s also…we talk a lot about the whole child, and making sure also socially, emotionally, physically, they’re ready.”
District officials say helping students’ mental health will be a big focus in the years ahead.
Schools officials addressed the teacher shortage, transparency, and other school district operations, and Mayor Rita Ali tells 25 News she liked what she heard.
“It’s great teaching that’s taking place within Peoria Public Schools,” said Ali. “There’s innovation that’s taking place. There’s a lot of collaboration.”
District 150 officials did not respond to a request for an interview from WMBD News.
