ROANOKE, Va. – The Peoria Rivermen are the champions of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
The Rivermen defeated the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night to win the championship. A deflection allowed JM Piotrowski to score the game-winning goal.
Peoria took the series from Roanoke three games to one.
The Rivermen wrap their 40th season in Peoria with their first SPHL President’s Cup championship, and their first championship in more than 20 years.
