PEORIA, Ill. — A Tazewell County man in his 70s was reported Friday by the Peoria City/County Health Department as the area’s most recent fatal COVID-19 case.
The man resided in the long-term care facility Aperion Care. It was not immediately reported whether or not the man had any underlying illnesses.
His death was the third death reported in 72 hours. Wednesday brought the death of a Woodford County man in his 80s, while a Peoria County woman in her 90s was reported Thursday to have died.
The health department said there were 60 new cases, overall, during the 24-hour reporting period between Thursday and Friday: 42 in Peoria County, 15 in Tazewell, and three in Woodford.
The area’s recovery rate ticked back to just above 75%.
The hospitalization rate was unchanged from Thursday, sitting at .7%.
52 people were in area hospitals with COVID cases. Of them, 14 were intensive care-level.
