PEORIA, Ill. — For a third day in a row, the Peoria City/County Health Department has reported deaths in the Tri-County area.
A Peoria County man in his 90s, a resident of Apostolic Christian Skylines Care Center and a Tazewell County woman in her 80s, a resident of Generations of Riverview in East Peoria, both died from COVID-19.
The health department reported 131 new cases, overall, between Thursday and Friday: 68 from Peoria County, 53 from Tazewell, and 10 from Woodford County.
The area recovery rate decreased slightly to 74%. Home isolation was up slightly at 23.6%.
Hospitalization was down to 1%, with 13 confirmed COVID cases in ICU.
40 non-ICU beds are in use by those who have tested positive and those under investigation of having the virus.
Going into the long holiday weekend, Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson encourages everyone to keep up with safety guidelines to avoid a surge in COVID cases like those that were seen over Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July.
“Embracing face coverings and masking, our schools reopening. The social distancing and safety protocols that have been put into place, let’s keep going with that,” Hendrickson said.
With many people traveling over Labor Day weekend, Hendrickson says safety measures are even more important.
“Even if you’re visiting a state or community that doesn’t necessarily follow that, there’s a great consideration that you bring back memories with you and not a virus,” Hendrickson said.
