PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Public Schools is making changes to its meal distribution program, adding a new restriction.
Starting Monday, August 31, PPS will require children to present a PPS ID card to receive meals.
Throughout the spring and summer months, Peoria Public Schools, Sodexo Food Service and the Salvation Army distributed 522,000 meals to anyone under the age of 18.
“The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn has been devastating to many of the Peoria Public Schools families,” said Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat.
Going forward, lunches will be distributed Monday-Friday at every PPS school except Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center, Woodruff Career and Technical Center, Knoxville Center and Washington Gifted Middle School.
“The District will continue to be a reliable, consistent source of nutritious meals for its students,” Kherat said.
Meals will be distributed from the front entrances of schools from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at K-8 schools and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the high schools.
Meals can also be picked up at the Salvation Army of Peoria, located at 2903 W. Nebraska Avenue, beginning Wednesday, September 2.
