SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — After breaking the 2,000 new daily cases barrier Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced Thursday less than 2,000 new cases.
IDPH announced Thursday 1,832 new cases of COVID-19, including 27 additional deaths.
51,612 tests were completed in the 24-hour reporting period, and a total of 3,541,183 have been done since the pandemic began.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate stayed at 4.4% after multiple days of rising.
As of Wednesday night, 1,519 people in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 357 were in the ICU and 124 were on ventilators.
The number of people in the hospital with COVID-19 remained the same as Tuesday night, while there was an increase of 23 of patients in the ICU. There was a decrease of ventilators in use by 20.
IDPH is reporting a total of 213,721 cases and 7,833 deaths due to COVID-19 in the state.
