PEORIA, Ill. — A batch of 104 new COVID-19 cases highlighted the 24-hour reporting period between Monday and Tuesday for the Peoria City/County Health Department.
51 of those cases stemmed from Peoria County, Tazewell County accounted for 40, and Woodford reported 13.
With the high number of new cases also came a substantial increase in hospitalizations for the virus.
The health department said 62 area coronavirus patients were occupying local hospital beds. Of those, 15 were in need of intensive care and 47 were in non-ICU beds.
This number was up from Monday’s 55.
However, just as a new crop of cases sprouted, so, too, did a number of recoveries. The area’s recovery rate jumped up to nearly 66% as the home isolation rate fell just below 31%.
