PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called just before 6:15 p.m. Monday to the 1600 block of W. Candletree Drive for a balcony fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said a maintenance man put out a small fire inside a second-story apartment before crews arrived on the scene.
Morgan said the fire seemed suspicious, since it was inside a vacant apartment.
“One firefighter did strike his foot with an axe, but he refused treatment and transport,” Morgan said.
A fire investigator was called to the scene. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
