SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The last time Illinois, as a state, surpassed the 2,000 COVID-19 case count, America was one day away from observing Memorial Day.
Until Friday, that is.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,084 new cases of coronavirus over the Thursday-to-Friday 24-hour reporting period, to go along with 21 additional deaths.
This was the worst case count since May 24, when 2,508 cases were recorded statewide.
Over that time, 46,869 specimens were taken over that duration.
The state’s rolling seven-day positivity rate continued its slow climb upwards, sitting at 4.1%.
The number of hospital beds being occupied by COVID or suspected COVID cases sat at 1,486. 333 people were in intensive care, while 125 required the use of ventilators.
