PEORIA, Ill. — 13 people were shot early Sunday morning at Peoria’s Riverfront.
Peoria Police responded at 4:41 a.m. to the area of Water and Hamilton on reports of a large fight, finding close to 200 people near the Gateway Building.
13 people were shot, two of them listed in serious condition Sunday.
At a news conference on Monday, Peoria Police Chief Loren Marion spoke about the incident.
“We recovered 100 shell cases. When you hear that number, that’s why I really stress that this cannot be tolerated,” Marion said.
Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis echoed the sentiment, and said he will continue to ask the community to help demand accountability for the violence.
“This should not all fall on the laps of our police department,” Ardis said.
Chief Marion said roving parties aren’t anything new, but police resources will be focused on stopping them throughout the summer.
“If you have information, please forward the information to the police department. We solve crime a lot quicker when we get cooperation,” Marion said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident at the Peoria Riverfront Sunday.
An investigation is ongoing.
