PEORIA, Ill. — It’s been two years since we’ve been able to gather on the riverfront for UnityPoint Health’s Red, White and Boom!
Midwest Communications-Peoria General Manager Mike Wild told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” Wednesday morning that he’s thrilled that the 4th of July fireworks are coming back.
“We’re going to put more of a focus this year, and have a few special things revolving around military, first responders and health care. And, look, these people in the last couple of years, and where our world is right now, I don’t think there’s a better opportunity or better group to highlight,” Wild said.
Big celebrations like Red, White and Boom! brought home by Adam Merrick Real Estate are something we’ve all been waiting for.
“We’ve seen this in events all over the nation here the last couple of months, since the COVID numbers have been going down. The pent up demand for people to have some semblance of normalcy, to get back to things that they’re passionate about, that demand has been incredible, and yeah we’re expecting this year to be off the charts,” Wild said.
2022 will be the 34th presentation of Red, White and Boom! It typically brings an estimated 200,000 people to Peoria/East Peoria, and is ranked in the top 2% of fireworks shows in the nation.
The festivities will include family fun all day long on Monday, July 4th on the riverfront, leading up to $100,000 worth of fireworks that night.
Midwest Communications and its seven radio stations organize the event in conjunction with the Peoria Park District, and it is supported by many community-minded sponsors.
In the event of rain or wind which prohibits the fireworks from being launched on July 4th, the currently-established rain-date is July 5th.
