PEORIA, Ill. — While many in Peoria Metro have had power restored since Saturday night’s storm, a good many were still without it as of Sunday afternoon.
“As of this morning, we had 4,700 people out [of power] in the Peoria area,” said Stacey Shangraw, Ameren Illinois Spokesperson.
“We have 165 crews engaged throughout the Division One area, which includes not only the Peoria area, but Galesburg, Kewanee, and LaSalle/Ottawa.
“We also have some outages throughout the Bloomington-Normal area, Champaign, and Decatur, so we have crews throughout our entire territory working.”
At one point Saturday night, an estimated 33,000 customers throughout Ameren’s Division One were without power, including 12,000 in Peoria.
An eyewitness told WMBD a large maple tree fell onto power lines on Glen Oak in Peoria’s East Bluff, knocking out power for many and blocking traffic in the area of Atlantic and Spring. Another tree was reportedly down on Prospect.
Winds reached speeds of 60 MPH in places during the peak of the storm.
National Weather Service spotters early in the evening indicated tennis ball-sized hail in the Bartonville area.
Multiple reports of golf ball- and quarter-sized hail trickled in throughout the duration of the storm, as well.
There were no reports of any tornadic activity.
A spokesperson told WMBD News power to Peoria Metro would likely be restored fully by Monday afternoon.
