SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported its largest 24-hour increase of statewide COVID-19 cases in over a month.
980 was the highest number since the 1,156 reported June 5.
36 people died between Tuesday and Wednesday.
In total, the state has had 149,432 cases and 7,099 deaths.
32,742 people were tested between Tuesday and Wednesday, which brought the total amount of tests administered to 1,842,576.
The rolling seven-day positivity rate ticked slightly upward, to 2.6%.
1,518 Illinoisans were said to be in hospitals with the virus. 331 of those patients were in intensive care beds, while 151 required ventilators.
