PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters were dispatched to OSF Healthcare Cardiovascular Institute Thursday evening around 5:15 on reports of a mulch fire.
Upon arrival, crews found an outside wall also engulfed.
Chief Clint Kuhlman said everyone inside got out safely, but weren’t allowed back in once the fire was out.
“It may not even be usable for a while because of the smoke damage,” he said.
“They did have smoke on all five floors of the building.”
Investigators said around $300,000 of damage was done.
The blaze was out shortly before 6:30.
No major injuries were incurred. One firefighter did need to be treated for a minor affliction, but was released on scene by medical personnel.
For a time, the main Knoxville entrance was closed to traffic at Cherry Ridge.
“We had an investigator there. We don’t know if it initially started in the mulch, or started in the wall and then caught the mulch on fire,” said Kuhlman.
The cause as of Friday morning was unknown.
