PEORIA, Ill. — Dozer Park will remain dark the rest of the year, as there will be no 2020 Minor League Baseball season.
The announcement came down Tuesday afternoon from the league, citing ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
At a news conference Wednesday, Peoria Chiefs’ General Manager Jason Mott said Tuesday was a sad day, thinking about the “season that never was.
“We want to obviously first off thank the fans, our season ticket holders, the sponsors out there, suite holders, everybody that’s stuck with us. They’ve all been patient through this,” Mott said.
Mott said the Chiefs’ focus now is getting ready for the 2021 season.
“We’re here for the long haul. The Chiefs are going to be a part of the Peoria community, and we’re excited to be,” Mott said.
“We love being in Peoria. And, we’re excited to get to 2021 and do that.”
Peoria Chiefs season ticket holders should expect to be contacted via phone and e-mail soon, according to Mott.
