PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called twice Wednesday to a vacant home in the 1500 block of N. Sheridan for fires that appeared to be intentionally set.
Crews were first called to the scene around 3:15 p.m., finding smoke coming from a second story window.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said firefighters put out an initial fire in the living room, then extinguished several small fires in other areas of the home.
Just before 8:30 p.m., crews were called back to the home on reports of heavy black smoke.
“Firefighters found a gasoline can on the second floor that wasn’t there earlier in the day. Lighter fluid was also found outside near the rear of the home,” Morgan said.
Investigators determined the cause of both fires was arson.
No injuries were reported.
Damage is estimated at $12,500.
