PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefigher/Paramedics responded Sunday morning around 6:30 for a kitchen fire at an apartment complex at 301 NE. Jefferson.
Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said upon arrival, said there was light water running from the complex.
“Once we got a crew up on the fifth floor they were met with heavy smoke in the hallway leading up to the affected unit,” Morgan said.
The sprinkler system was activated and crews found a small fire on a kitchen stove.
“They put the fire out and we sent crews up there to assist with ventilating and evacuating the residents,” Morgan said.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. There was around $75,000 of damages to the complex.
The Red Cross assisted with temporary lodging for eight residents.
