NORMAL, Ill. – There’s a lot of grain that Ukraine could be distributing around the world right now, but can’t.
“There’s talk that Ukraine has about six million metric tons of wheat to export yet, and fourteen million metric tons of corn to ship out yet, with some of the shippers saying it’s going to be 30 to 45 days even before they can even think about resuming exports,” said Curt Kimmel, owner, Bates Commodities in Normal.
Kimmel tells “RFD Illinois” those export market concerns can impact grain prices here at home, and possibly even the U.S.’ own exporting of grain.
“The news keeps shifting around back and forth, but the bottom line is whatever happens with Ukraine and Russia, it’s going to take some time to get those grain exports back on track,” said Kimmel.
What’s more, Kimmel says fuel continues to be a concern, especially because Ukranian farmers neex fuel for their farm equipment, especially when it becomes time to plant and harvest.
