EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The East Peoria City Council met Tuesday night and agreed upon regulations for liquor license holders in regards to delivery and carry out mixed drinks.
Commissioner Mark Hill said these regulations parallel the law signed by the Governor.
“We are changing our city ordinances to let’s say compliment or agree with those temporary changes that last for a year,” Hill said.
Hill said the goal is to help out local businesses struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor John Kahl agreed.
“This is just another measure to assist them,” Kahl said.
The guidelines clarify establishments that already hold a liquor license do not need to get another license or pay a fee to deliver or have mixed drinks available for carry out.
When being sold for carry out, the mixed drinks will not be placed in the passenger section of the vehicle, but rather the back or the trunk.
The same goes for when an employee, at least 21 years of age, delivers the mixed drinks.
“The carry out drinks must be placed in sealed containers by the liquor license holder at the premises of the liquor license holder,” Hill said.
Containers must be covered with a lid. The lids will not have any holes for drinking or for a straw.
The containers will also have the information stating what ingredients are inside and the address of the liquor license holder.
When mixed drinks are delivered, proof of age will be required similar as purchasing the drink in the establishment.
“If the age or intoxication level of the purchaser can not be verified at the delivery point by the employee of the liquor license holder, the sale of the carry out mixed drink shall be canceled,” Hill said.
