WASHINGTON D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will sign an executive order for safer policing in the United States.
The executive order will encourage police departments across the country to adopt the highest professional standards to serve communities.
“These standards will be as high and as strong as there is on Earth,” Trump said.
“The mass majority of police officers are selfless and courageous public servants.”
Trump said he met with families who have lost loved ones at the hands of police.
“We are one nation, we grieve together, and we heal together,” Trump said.
“I can never imagine your pain or depth of your anguish, but I can promise to fight for justice for all of our people.”
Trump does not support efforts to dismantle and diminish police departments.
“Especially now when we’ve achieved the lowest recorded crime rates in recent history,” Trump said.
While supporting the men and women in blue, Trump said Americans believe in accountability and transparency when it comes to police actions.
“And invest more resources in police training, recruiting, and community engagement,” Trump said.
