PEORIA, Ill. — The first of 13 “Bomb Squad” members has been sentenced.
Eugene Haywood, 26, has been sentenced to life plus 10 years in prison for his role in the Peoria “Bomb Squad” gang, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Haywood was convicted along with fellow gang members in December 2019, of participating in racketeering conspiracy. He was also convicted for the murder of Eric Brown, Jr. on June 23, 2013 and Tyrann Chester on July 15, 2013.
Haywood is the first of 13 “Bomb Squad” members to be sentenced following their conviction in 2019 after a seven week trial.
Haywood has been in the custody of U.S. Marshals since June 2018. He will be transferred to a federal Bureau of Prisons facility to serve out his sentence.
Other “Bomb Squad” members are scheduled to be sentenced this week and next week.
