PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police have offered details on three recent criminal cases, all involving juvenile suspects and one involving an infant victim.
Between Saturday and Monday, PPD says officers responded to a pair of vehicle thefts and a car-jacking, leading to the arrest and detention of eight juveniles as potential suspects.
The first case happened Saturday around 7:30 p.m. and involved a group of three juveniles, who reportedly car jacked one adult who had a baby with them near a business on North Sheridan and West McClure.
The suspects ordered the adult victim out of the car and later removed the child and then sped off.
Investigators caught up with them in an area near Knoxville and McClure, where the stolen car was found abandoned.
On Monday, Peoria Police say they were called to the 2100 block of N. Drury Lane in West Peoria, where they conducted surveillance on a reported stolen vehicle.
Four juveniles who approached the car were later chased down, arrested and taken to JDC.
Later on Monday night, around 6:30 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Spring Street regarding a motor vehicle theft.
The stolen car was later found driving at a high rate of speed and then ultimately crashed into a light pole at the intersection of Glen Oak and Knoxville.
Two suspects got out of the vehicle and fled the scene. One of them was caught by pursuing officers and, again characterized as a juvenile.
In one of the investigations, PPD says officers found a loaded handgun in addition to a loaded ammo magazine.
All cases involved juvenile suspects and so Peoria Police are not planning to release further information on any of their identities.
