SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois has seen a decrease in positive cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health Saturday reported the state’s preliminary seven-day positivity rate for May 30-June 5 was 5.5%.
State health officials announced 975 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 72 additional deaths statewide. One of those deaths was a woman in her 70s in Tazewell County.
Gov. J-B Pritzker was in Peoria Friday touring a federal COVID testing site in the Peoria Civic Center parking lot on Fulton Street. He said the state is making progress against COVID-19, but the fight isn’t over yet.
“We can’t forget the people that we’ve lost to this virus over the past several months. We can’t forget the people that are still fighting for their lives in our hospitals,” Pritzker said.
Since Friday, laboratories have reported 21,155 specimens, for a total of 1,022,074.
“With everything else that’s going on, this virus hasn’t gone away. It’s still out there,” Pritzker said.
Illinois has seen a total of 126,890 positive cases of COVID-19 to date, including 5,864 deaths since the pandemic began.
