PEORIA, Ill. — Emergency crews responded to a call just before 2 a.m. Saturday to an apartment building in the 3400 block of W. Sunburst Lane in Peoria.
“We got there and the entire third floor apartments were in flames. The outside porch was fully engulfed and it fire had extended into the apartment quite a bit. The fire also extended into the roof of the building,” Fire Battalion Chief Nate Rice said.
Additional crews were called in to help search for residents throughout the building.
“We did find one occupant on the first floor. We did get that person out. They did have any medical issues, but were treated on-scene by AMT,” Rice said.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the third floor apartment and a section of the roof.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was called in to assist with temporary housing for the night for 13 residents.
