PEORIA, Ill. – An initiative that started sixteen years ago when a Peoria woman’s son was killed is getting a boost, thanks in part to Peoria Police and other community leaders.
“I was going all around the city putting up posters of Jon asking who killed him. Who killed me? That’s how it started,” Yolanda Wallace, mother of Jon Buckley, told news partner 25 News.
Now, “Who Killed Me?” will have some new Peoria Police cold cases included, and is now a part of the cell phone and web platform where anonymous tips can be submitted to police called “Tip411.”
“I’ve talked to people who have said ‘does anybody care?’, especially with cases that are older,” Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood told news partner 25 News. “I think the importance of this initiative is to keep it in the forefront in the public’s mind that yes, these names are not just names. The police department has never quit working on cases.”
Harwood says the message for families whose cases have gone cold is to not give up.
