PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police responded just after 2:30 a.m. Monday to the area of Spring an Jefferson Streets on reports of an accident involving a police officer who was not responding to dispatch.
“Upon arrival, officers located the accident on Jefferson just south of Spring. The accident did involve a car and a police officer’s SUV,” Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said.
Witness information gathered at the scene indicated the car was traveling eastbound on Spring when it collided with the Peoria Police SUV heading south on Jefferson.
Dotson said the driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The officer suffered serious injuries, but was listed in stable condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
